Bedeng
Thirty years ago, "Bedeng" was one of these squatter areas. Today, after years of continual restoration, most of the houses, although tiny by Western standards, are built from bricks and mortar.
Only a few of the original inhabitants and their extneded families remain in Bedeng. Others continue their search for a better life.
This video is a valuable resource, which allows the students to get a "feel" of the atmosphere in this part of Jakartan society.
