Mbak Jamu
Mulyani, a young girl (Mbak), from Solo, in Central Java, tells us the story of her first day selling Traditional Medicine, (Jamu), on the streets of Jakarta.
Mulyani's use of slang is common among all socio-economic groups in Jakarta in informal conversation. Literary Bahasa Indonesia is taught in Schools and in Universities, and is the language of the media, but otherwise, is only used in formal written communication and spoken on formal occasions.
