Bedeng

This ten minute documentary, offers a quick glimpse of life in one of the inner suburbs of Jakarta.

A literal translation of "Bedeng", is an area inhabited by squatters, who build shelters from materials that are collected, scrounged or stolen.

When these people have saved enough money, they move away from the area. Many of these basic structures are then occupied by local hoodlums.
